Meet Our CCS Staff

  • Mrs. Alyssa Rettig, Principal

This is my 10th year at Community Christian School and my 3rd year as principal. I attended the University of West Georgia where I received my degree in Middle Grades Education. I also attended Columbia International University where I recieved my Master’s in Educational Administration.

CCS has been a major part of my life. My aunt, Elaine Thomason, founded the school, and I learned a lot by working with her. I attended CCS during elementary school, and now not only am I able to work here, but my children attend CCS as well!

Over the years, I have enjoyed witnessing students begin their journeys with Christ and strengthening those relationships over time. It has been a blessing to work with and lead the staff at CCS in order to partner with parents and provide students with a Christ centered education.

My husband, Andrew, and I live in the Canton area, and we have three children together. We enjoy spending time with our church family, sporting events, and other family activities!

  • Mrs. Sharon Robertson, Administrative Assistant

I have been a resident of Cherokee County most of my life and attended Hickory Flat Elementary, Cherokee High School and Reinhardt College. It was at Hickory Flat that I first met the Charles and Eva Davis family and become a part of their lives through my friendship with their daughter, Carol. We maintained that relationship through the years as the Davis family ministered to Cherokee County. In January 2018 that relationship came full circle by me becoming a part of the Community Christian School ministry. Mrs. Elaine Thomason, school principal and daughter of the Davises, hired me to assist her in the office.

When Carol and I attended Hickory Flat, there was a wonderful lady named Bernice “Miss Bunky” Bowden, who worked in the school office. She not only took care of the school business by doing clerical task but also offered a supportive, Godly and loving “mother” figure to all the children there. It has been my desire and goal since working at CCS to model “Miss Bunky” to our students every day. Miss Bunky has passed on now, but her light still shines in the hearts of all those she touched.

I was blessed to grow up in a time where God, community and family were of utmost importance, and everyone worked to instill those values in the children. I am so blessed now to be a part of this ministry where the same commitment to children still exists. Being a part of CCS has changed my life by allowing me to serve the children and their families here, giving me a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

  • Mrs. Eve Priest

I’ve been a part of Community Christian School since the very beginning when my mom, Elaine Thomason, had a vision for a Christian school in the Canton area. Starting in the summer and after school program, along with some tutoring, I knew that I wanted to spend my life working with students.

I received my degree in special education from the University of North Georgia and spent the next 10 years teaching in public school. I loved working with special needs students, but was bogged down in red tape, paperwork and government regulations. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Christian education and began to see the importance of incorporating Scripture into my teaching.

I was grateful to be able to come back home to CCS in 2010 where I have enjoyed teaching multiple subjects/grade levels. This place is truly special, and it’s been an honor to watch so many children grow academically, spiritually and emotionally. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Brian, for almost 25 years and we have a daughter and son.

  • Mrs. Brittany Stansel, Kindergarten

I am blessed to be the Kindergarten teacher at Community Christian School. I am a Canton native and studied Early Childhood Education at Georgia Highlands and Kennesaw State University. This will be my sixth year at CCS after three years at another Christian school, all in a Kindergarten classroom.

I have a true passion for working with our youngest learners! I recognize the importance of understanding each individual student and making sure each one succeeds to their own ability. Most of all, I want to spiritually encourage them all!

I have been married for 7 years and have one sassy daughter who is 4. As a family, we enjoy the outdoors, sports, our seven chickens, and two dogs! I also enjoy crafting, DIY projects, and spending time with my family!

  • Mrs. Sheri Stewart, 1st Grade

My name is Sheri Stewart, and I am, blessed beyond words, to be the first grade teacher at Community Christian School. I am originally from Wilmington, NC, where I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home. I received Christ as my personal Savior when I was eight years and was baptized soon after.

I attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where I earned a BA in Early Childhood Education. During my freshman year, as I was serving in the children's department at my church, I sensed that God was calling me to be a teacher. After graduating, I married my high school/college sweetheart, Rodney. We have two children, Brady and Amanda. Amanda is married to our son-in-law, Stephan, and we now have two precious grandchildren, Heidi and Mila.

I was offered a job, after I graduated, in a Christian school. I fell in love with Christian education and developed a very strong conviction that the best education is centered around God and His Word. I taught Kindergarten, and then first grade, for three years, and then homeschooled our children all the way through high school. I then went back to work part time at our church's weekday preschool. God then led me back into full time teaching. I got a job at Anchor Christian Academy, assisting in kindergarten, and then teaching first grade. That school closed, and then God, graciously, allowed me to get hired as the first grade teacher at CCS, where I have been since 2017. My goal is to partner with parents to teach and encourage their children to grow spiritually, academically, and physically.

I am very familiar with technology and spent two years on the school district's technology team for my school. I served on the Leadership Team and Emergency Response Team at my school this year. I was teacher of the year for the 2017- 2018 school year.

My relationship with God is the most important aspect of my life. I have been active in every church that I have attended. I spent time teaching classes, leading small groups, and worked with the youth planning trips, teaching, and mentoring. I was a counselor for over 20 years at Sardis Lake Christian Camp.
